Ordnance Survey Control Room & Reception Area
Control Room: Curved 3 operator security control console
Reception Area: Reception desk
Intech had won the contract to design, manufacture and install a 3 operator console in the new Ordnance Survey offices near Southampton. The architectural and interior design firm Bissit Adams were commissioned with the design and fit out of the new building’s interior, who asked Intech to also develop the design of the reception desk and complete the manufacture and installation.
How we met the challenge
The design concept for the office interior is based on the popular Landranger OS maps. Once Intech had manufactured and installed the desk’s body, Armourcoat, which is better known as a specialist wall finish, was applied to the surface. This, along with the Ordnance Survey logo engraved into the desk’s front, reflects the maps colour palette and textural changes. All the working surfaces were made from single sheets of toughened glass and fitted on site once the desk body was in place. The finished desk is the centrepiece of the new reception area and combines a striking design with a practical and discrete working area for the staff.
